How Is Vinyl Flooring Made
To gain an understanding into the intricacies of vinyl, you first need to know how this product is made. Every vinyl floor will contain 3 core components: Felt Paper, the Vinyl Foam and the Protective Layer. In some cases with vinyl planks that are textured, inhibitors will be applied.
Each plank begins with PVC (polyvinyl chloride resins) which is then added to calcium carbonate and white pigments. To make this flooring type flexible, plasticizers are also added. Other additions include fungicides in order to prevent mildew and mold along with UV stabilizers to slow down the fading process. The last step involves the addition of a blowing agent. This agent is later activated in the process of creation which inflates the vinyl-foam which is found in the center layer.
Once all these materials have been well-blended, they are then added to the felt or paper backing. This backing is made up of calcium carbonate or wood pulp. These two layers are then fed into an oven which gels the middle layer which is made up of the vinyl foam.
The next step involves the design process. A print will then be directly pressed onto the vinyl-foam layer which offers the decorative pattern. A protective is then applied and the end product is then placed back into an oven. If the planks are textured, it will be applied through a process known as chemical embossing.
